ABOUT
The paintings are in many ways anachronisms, disjointed from time, encouraging contemplation of the temporal and spatial dimensions surrounding each depicted scene. Allthough they hint at an underlying narrative, the artworks are not meant to be understood in a literary sense. Nor do they make any moral judgements or offer any opinions. They cannot simply be solved, decoded and distilled into simple language or a simple idea. They do however urge the viewer to enter into dialogue with the works, challenging preconceptions, and prompting contemplation. Upon revisiting the works they may seem different – not because the paintings change, but because people do. In this sense the paintings exist not merely as static images but as dynamic portals into a realm where glimpses of implied narratives transcend the constraints of a linear sequence.
Revisiting the late Renaissance and the Baroque era, they delve into themes of power and powerlessness, inviting viewers to consider the relevance of these themes in contemporary contexts. In a deliberate attempt to engage with and reinterpret the complexities of power dynamics, weaving a visual tapestry that resonates with the intricacies of human experience, the paintings serve as a visual exploration of a diverse, multifaceted and somewhat paradoxical reality, manifesting in the fluid interplay of forms and narratives.
The paintings challenge the viewer to navigate the blurred lines between the representational and the non-representational, cultivating an atmosphere of ambiguity that hints at perpetual movement, while the incorporation of spatial dividers, reminiscent of architecture, textiles or natural structures, introduces an unexpected depth into the compositions. This depth, though often illogical, serves to transport the observer into a realm where moments become timeless cutouts in a nonlinear timeline, inviting individuals to transcend the ordinary and embark on a visual journey to explore the captivating imagery.
